GOOD NEWS! ROCKWOOD WEED & SEED IS OFFICIALLY FUNDED FOR ITS FIFTH AND FINAL YEAR. During this next fiscal year (Oct 06-Sep 07), we will continue to support many efforts of the following groups/agencies: Gresham Police Department, Police Activities League (PAL) of Greater Portland, Gresham Community Court, Rockwood/West Gresham Business Coalition and many more (of you) community advocates and neighborhood residents. More good news! Rockwood Weed & Seed has been chosen as one of 43 new VITA Center Sites for the 2007 Tax Season. VITA = Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center. VITA Centers provide free income tax assistance to low- and moderate-income families, increase the use of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credits by low-income families, and assist families in poverty to accumulate significant enough assets to buy a home, start a business, or seek higher education. In 2006, 50 new Weed and Seed VITA sites completed over 11,000 returns and returned more than $15 million in tax refunds to Weed and Seed residents during the tax season that ended April 17th.
