Rockwood Weed and Seed is hosting a free VITA/Tax Aide center from February 1 to April 16, 2007. Located in the Rockwood Community Offices at 18709 SE Stark, this center offers free tax assistance to individuals and families. We are open to everyone with a special emphasis on Rockwood residents whose incomes are $39,000 or less. What is a VITA/Tax Aide Center? In 2005, the U.S. Department of Justice and the IRS partnered to establish Volunteer Income Tax Assistance centers in Weed and Seed communities across the country. These centers provide free tax assistance and filing at no cost for working individuals and families. The VITA/Tax Aide centers also work to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credits, which can significantly increase the amount of tax returns for families. Weed and Seed VITA Centers launched in January 2006 processed more than 11,000 returns worth more than $15 million in total tax refunds.
