MONTAVILLA/HAZELWOOD LIVABILITY COALITIONGrant ApplicationOperation Weed and Seed, is a U.S. Department of Justice strategy to "weed-out" gangs, drugs, and violence; and "seed-in" positive community programs. It is an innovative and comprehensive multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and community revitalization built on the model of collaboration and cooperation. Working in partnership with the Lents/Brentwood-Darlington Weed & Seed site, community stakeholders in Montavilla and Hazelwood, and the Montavilla/Hazelwood Livability Coalition, strategic planning has been happening leading to the development of an application for Official Recognition as a Weed and Seed site. The application provides an overview of existing issues and assets in the target area and a comprehensive 5-year plan for addressing weed and seed activities. The Lents/Brentwood-Darlington Weed & Seed selected Montavilla and Hazelwood as prospective weed and seed partners based on issues relating to crime, demographics, community assts, physical location, and coalition partners. For more information about the Montavilla/Hazelwood Livability Coalition, contact Sharon White, at (503) 988-6127 ext. 228.
