Albina Weed & Seed Priorities
The Albina Weed & Seed brings together partners, leverages resources, and focuses efforts on improving the livability in the eleven neighborhoods of the Albina Weed & Seed Site:
Arbor Lodge, Boise, Eliot, Humboldt, Kenton, King, Overlook, Piedmont, Sabin, Vernon & Woodlawn.
Our funding has been used to support the following efforts:
- Lighting installation at Iris Court
- Support the hire of the Iris Court Community Computer Lab Assistant
- Foot Patrol and Police support office in Maple-Mallory Housing Complex
- Safety Equipment for the Mallory Street Citizen Foot Patrol
- "Faith-Builders" Grant-writing and Capacity Building Class
- Youth/Peer Mentors Celebration (FY 2002)
- PEACE Youth Campaign
- Police Activities League NYSP Camp buses
- Gang Prevention outreach activities
- Grants for: Youth Gang Outreach; Young Life Ministries; Self Enhancement, Inc; Moore Street Salvation Army; TLC-TNT; Community Cycling Center and Blazer's Boys & Girls Club activities (FY 2001).
- Sabin Community Development Computer Lab Instructors
- North/ Northeast Community Court tools and equipment purchases
- North/ Northeast Community Court Social Services Case Manager fees
- North/ Northeast Community Court Legal Assistant fees
- Police Overtime for conducting "Drug Elimination Missions" in our target area
- Equipment purchases to support PPB Northeast and North Precincts
- Bicycles for North Precinct Police
- Training and educational opportunities for Steering Committee Members
- Site Coordinator, office space, and miscellaneous office needs.
Our Site Coordinator (Megan Jolly) and Community Liaison (Damon Miller)
coordinate the efforts of the Albina Weed & Seed Steering Committee, staff
its meetings, implement mini-grants, and provide technical assistance to
community members. Recent community-based efforts include:
- PEACE Youth Campaign (led by Pam Ballentine & Linda Hornbuckle)
- Salvation Army efforts - the Salvation Army works hand in hand with other
agencies to provide an *oasis* in a high-crime area of North Portland.
- Mallory Avenue Church of Christ Breakfast Outreach (led by Rhone Williams)
- Several Citizen Foot Patrols
- Participation in the Mayor's Bi-weekly Gang Group Meeting
- Community Court
